Add a Mop up man role and a low leverage role
A lot of times my last guy in the bullpen will be quite not as good as the others, especially when injuries come into play. When that happens I'd like to specify him to come in as a mop up man, you know when leverage is 0.1 and you're down 8-1 in the 2nd inning type.
Also a setting for low leverage situations would be nice, which would be like a mop up man but also include being up 13-2 in the 9th, just any low leverage situation. As it stands now, the best option is leaving a guy in as none specified /avoid high leverage, but they end up getting like 20-30 IP a year and have like a 1.5 leverage because they come in when all the relievers are tired, oftentimes in extra innings. I'd rather they have been used the day before in the 8-2 loss so the other relievers were more rested for the extra innings. You know, get a guy with 50-70 IP but 0.5 leverage. Also, if these guys have the stamina to start they should have starter stamina if they are fully rested. 55 stamina RP who hasn't pitched in 6 days, now we're down 8-0 in the 2nd inning? Come on it, pitch 100 for us to get us through this game without wrecking the rest of the bullpen. Even when the last guy in the bullpen isn't that bad, having a low leverage option and a mop up guy option would still be nice to have so our weakest reliever can use it as a secondary option, similar to a setup or closer with high leverage as their secondary option. to still just optimize who pitches when. I play online leagues, and even when I don't, I don't really like managing games directly. So this would be nice to have. |

Also having high leverage as a primary role would be nice, with usage option the leverage amount. Closers often get like 1.8 leverage aaverage, but I want them to primary come in whenever the role is over X amount would be nice (maybe like 1.7), which often times would be in tied or losing games by 1 in >=8th inning, which a closer doesn't come in for. Yes there is secondary role high leverage, but I want 1st role high leverage 2ndary closer as an option.

If you set the role to MR or LR you have the ability to set "Avoid high leverage". I know this doesn't exactly do what you are looking for, but perhaps the AI will use these guys in the low leverage mop up situations before the "normal" arms.

Yep
The closer, setup, middle reliever designations are becoming less relevant. High-leverage, medium-leverage, low-leverage is where it's at. |

It's got problems similar to doing none specified avoid high leverage.

Makes perfect sense too, you need your best talent to play in the most critical of moments. Racking-up 3-run saves means very little.

I definitely agree we need something like this for simming leagues. For leagues in which I play out the games, I go with a 6 man rotation and use the 6th starter for doubleheaders, day-to-day injured starters, injuries/blowouts in the 1st few innings, and long extra inning games, etc. Maybe the devs could setup a 6th starter role like this if they don't accept the other good suggestions above.

Long Relief/Avoid High Leverage guys get a ton of innings for me, so I'm not sure what you are seeing there. If you check their leverage index in advanced stats, it'll be 0.50 or something, so it's working in that sense. I wouldn't set a pitcher to "None Specified".
However, I do agree that it's not perfect and doesn't behave like mop-up or junk innings. Sometimes these guys will be pitching when you don't want and cost you a win. Would be nice if there was a junk inning option that you wouldn't mind even position players pitching in. A 6-run lead wouldn't count, but a 10-run deficit might. Even though both of these would be considered low leverage. |

There was "mop up" in older versions of the game, eliminated at some point unknown to me.
