Teflon Sighting at State Fair Park

State Fair Park has a unique history and a down-home flavor. The natural bowl-shaped ravine at the southwest corner of the state fairgrounds was used as an early grandstand site for everything from concerts to demolition derbies. When the city was looking for a location for its new baseball stadium the state offered this land free of charge with the stipulation that the ballpark also accommodate state fair concerts. The city was glad to oblige, taking advantage of the natural amphitheater, huge existing parking areas and transportation access.

A couple of traditions at Fairgrounds Park are the annual All-American Barbecue Cook-Off Competition in the parking lot on Memorial Day Weekend and the scheduling of no games on the weekends that NASCAR is in town. Another tradition is the crowd standing and singing as Alabama's "Cheap Seats" is played while the home team takes the field to start the game.

The ball carries very well in this park as it is sheltered from the wind by the natural enclosure. Foul territory is generous, however.

(More than you want to know department: One of the team's part-owners is a popular country recording artist and son of a famous big league pitcher. He can frequently be coaxed into singing the national anthem to the delight of the fans - many times with his equally famous wife. The fans have informally named the hill that forms the batter's eye in her honor.)

You're just a MACHINE! Another outstanding ballpark. I can't say I'm surprised that another park of yours has blown me away.

I check this Mod every morning (okay, and about 50 times during the day) just to see if Tef posts another stadium. This one is another gem and I enjoy reading the corresponding storylines that go with them. Keep up the good work. Someone needs to hire this guy!!!!! Markus, Joe??????

Amazing...Teflon...do you have a website where we can donate a little something for your effort.

I will gladly open my wallet if you could do 19th century stadiums....and full renditions of the parks Henry has for 1901...

Do you have plans of recreating Robison Field and League Park I and II...Exposition Field???

Where Is It?

The ballpark could be wherever you think it fits, Skip. I think the background photo is from 6 Flags Great America in Chicago - but that isn't why I picked that photo. When I was working on it, I pictured it in a southern state like N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Tenn, maybe Bama.

By the way, you can get the better quality bitmap and the Park.dat and Parkconfig.dat files for my stadiums at http://hall-fame.com/ballparks.html

Super, Teflon Skies.

I'm another who comes to this mod board often just to see if you've posted another stadium. Anyway, I've tried my best to keep the Blue Sox in their old Shibe Park replica, but you may have just designed a new stadium for them. Anyway, I'm still thinking about it. Excellet park and storyline.

By the way a few of my clubs have already moved into several of your other designs as I'm doing away with all of the replicas in a quest to have all of the Metros fictional clubs playing in totally fictional ballparks. Your designs along with others have made this possible for many of us. Much thanks to you.

PS: Your designs have also fueled my expansion fever. But I'm still hangin tight.

Edit: Well just saw your Teflon Field design and since it has the blue accents I've decided to make it the new home for the Blue Sox.

Thanks Dream Teams. Your Metro Leagues site along with Henry's are two of my favorite OOTP destinations. They always get me in the mood to play OOTP or work on a new park. I appreciate the way you convey the nostalgia that is so much a part of baseball - truly unique from other sports. Your entertaining articles and the totally appropriate music you use really make your site a treat. Hoping you keep up your good work, too.
