Not spending money

Is it possible to do Perfect Team without spending money?

Assuming the question here is "is it possible to succeed/do well/etc. in Perfect Team without spending money?", then yes of course. More than one no-money-spent team has won the Perfect League, which is the single best-of-the-best league at the top of the PT ladder.

True. But if the question is "is it probable that a no-money team will reach those same heights? Absolutely not. Even if we generously say that 20% of players spend a meaningful amount of cash on the game, well, there are roughly 25.5K players. This means that 20,400 of those players spend very little or nothing at all (aside from the cost of the base game). I mean, I don't follow PL too closely (I'm never getting there!), how many of those 20,400 make it to PL? How many even have decent success at diamond? The percentage would be staggeringly small.

There is a path to winning without paying money, but you do end up spending something--time. A whole lot of time. Learn the market, spend time waiting for perfect opportunities to flip cards, that sort of thing. Or spend your life keeping your tournament entries maxed out. Or spend time on your knees praying that you get 2 FotF Madduxes in five packs so you get a shot in the arm of PP.

Basically, I'm okay with not being able to "be the best" here. Yes, there's strategy, and I work on that. There's also a whole lot of luck. And no offense meant to those who have a lot of cash in this game, but I perceive spending thousands as nothing more than being in a @#$&-swinging contest, and I don't see that as fun.

Yeah if you want success as FTP it takes a real commitment. Doable yes but it's a lot of work.

Small clarification though, luck is not a requirement. Luck is only a very minor factor in any BFF success, since we are not allowed to sell our lucky pulls. 2 BFFs have won perfect and several are strong diamond teams. Working the markets properly is the biggest thing, by far. And probably the key to that, is participating in an active community where those kinds of market strategy discussions are happening.

TLDR - If you want to have success as FTP, considering joining BFF or another active group, it really helps. and yes...be prepared to spend a lot of time & effort if you want to make it to the very top.

There is close to no luck at all involved in being a top no-money team.

I was referring to luck within the game, as when a team of live silvers beats a team of historic diamonds and perfect 10-3. It happens, and you just have to learn to roll with it. Yeah, more often than not the better team wins (if there is a real discrepancy), but sometimes the inferior team does luck out. Especially in the playoffs.

Like he said, "close to no luck". He did not say "no luck". I just got swept by a team that is currently 27-87. My nearest challenger endured a 10 game losing streak, and now it is my turn to get RNG'ed. My 9 game lead down to 4.

Spending

I have not bought one PP and I have two 21 teams and three 20 teams. I have won a LOT of World Series. I have a set offense that averages .300. My pitching is good one year and then sucks.

With me, I do not want to be promoted. Almost every time I do, I struggle for a couple of seasons until I get demoted again, then I am dominating.

When you get promoted your pitching staff goes to hell. Just way to bad. A pitcher that won 21 last year loses 17 the next year.

I have made it to Perfect league once and did good for the 1st 1/4 of the season, leading then everything went to crap. They stayed up there one year and got demoted.

Last season I had 4 out 5 teams make the playoffs. None won it, but like they say "Any given Sunday"

It is tough, you look forward to getting demoted and do not like it when you are promoted.

Someone said something about a free roster (like mine) could win a Perfect league, anything is possible, but the two times I made it, there is no way!! So I take a losing season and hope I get demoted.

That is a crazy way to play a game.

I look forward to promotion even though I know I'm unlikely to win in Perfect League. I thought I had the Wild Card Mojo working for me today, as I swept both DS and LCS, but then faced a team that did the same and then swept me.
