Moving players without trades?

New to OOTP -- we are five years into a spreadsheet-fueled league that began with actual 2015 rosters which then changed through trades, etc. We would like to move our current rosters into OOTP. Is there a way to just move players from one MLB team to another without trades to get started? If it has to be trades, is there a way to override the OOTP's judgement about whether it was a good trade or not?

yes, you can "move" players from/to any team you wish without trades. it can be easily done. i think you need to be in commish mode, but not absolutely certain.

go to the player's profile and click Editor button.
on the left side - under player info find "Team Information, Select New Team"
click on no league selected - pick desired league.
once you do that - teams will appear below that league. use the drop down menu and select desired team.

that should do it. hope this helps. good luck.

As mitchkenn stated, put yourself in Commish Mode, go to the player profile, then edit tab.

Left side, 1/3 of the way down is a dropdown (red underline) for "No League Selected". Use this to select the league (example MLB) (whatever your league is named it will appear in the dropdown, all levels).

Once you select a league, another dropdown will appear below the first. From this you can select which team to place the player on.

Also, further down on the same side you can edit contract length, amount, etc, etc. Pretty much can edit anything about a player on this page.

Just did a quick check in the game. It looks like you can export the roster from a standard game to a text file. Then edit the teams for each player in the text file and reimport. This may or may not be faster than manually changing each player.

Game settings/league settings has the export and import buttons. I have never tried this so I don't know if there are quirks you need work arounds for. Maybe guys in the historical forum can help since I think this is something they would do more. I have done historical gaming in over 2 maybe more than 3 years so I am rusty.

Manual section on this.

Another way to do this if you have multiple players to place on one or more teams:

1. Find players and put them on a shortlist
2. Go to the shortlist, select all, right-click > Transaction > Release Players
3. "Act as (for example)" Baltimore
4. Go back to the shortlist, select all of the players that you want to "sign" to (for example) Baltimore, right-click > Sign Players

Depending upon volume, this might be a good option. Even if it's only 30 or so players and mostly one player per team, it's still a pretty good option for keeping things organized... This will place a "released by..." and a "signed by..." line in each players' history, which may or may not be desired, whereas editing each player's history one-by-one (as described above) would not.
