Extra man on double headers

In the real MLB you get an extra man in double headers.

It would be nice if this functionality could get added to OOTP. As well as letting us choose "preferred" candidates for coming up for that day. (Which could change depending on how rested they are) (Needed because of people who don't daily sim and for online leagues.)

When a double header is scheduled, we should be able to even choose a SP from the minors to rest and be ready to come up that day ahead of time, without having to manually bench the player for X days. In the case of online leagues which often sim one week at a time. Take this example: Sim goes from Monday through Sunday. AAA pitcher is schedule to pitch Monday and Saturday in AAA, but is needed for a Sunday double header in MLB. You select them ahead of time for that, and the AAA manager rests them instead on Saturday so they can pitch on Sunday. Simply benching them for 6 days wouldn't work, as they still need to pitch that Monday.

Typically a SP from AAA is called up because the rotation can't handle an extra start, so OOTP should probably default to picking from fully rested AAA pitchers who can start.

You could add something that says "Double header call up" and choose from Best rested SP in minor leagues, best RP in minor leagues (>45% rest), rest best MiL SP ahead of time (which would just use the 1st option if a double header gets scheduled for the very next day or too soon for said SP to get rested), and maybe a "none" while having a place to select specific players to call up under strategy (some may want to keep rotation order and leave on 4-day rest, while calling up some fielder for some reason?? idk if anyone would actually call up something other than a pitcher. I guess maybe a 2nd catcher if running on just one when fielder stamina is set to high)

I agree. This is one of the few blemishes on this game. It wouldn't even be noticeable if I didnt end up having several double headers a year due to bad weather.

This oversight is somewhat offset by the fact that the game also doesn't enforce the 15-day callup rule for pitchers optioned to the minors (in MLB, they can only be brought back sooner if they're replacing another pitcher going on the IL).

So my workaround is to option a tired pitcher (even someone I use in the first game) to the minors for the "27th man" and then reverse the move after the doubleheader. Of course this isn't perfect as you can use up an option year if it's a pitcher that hasn't already been up and down, and it only helps if you're playing in the current day or future.

I enforce this rule on myself

It would be nice if the game included it, but, it would be be another hurdle the AI had to clear

There's no reason why AI shouldn't be exempt from certain rules. It could be part of a graduated "help AI" option.

I'm pretty sure Matt or Lukas or someone from the dev team has stated that they haven't been able to get the AI to handle the change of roster size well enough to implement it. As nice as this rule would be, not having it is better than having players wind up on waivers after a doubleheader or worse, a prospect's service time clock starting early because he was called up to sit on the bench for a doubleheader, all because the AI didn't make the smartest move.

I never thought of that. Good point.

I add the extra player manually. Before the DH I go to roster size and set it to 26. After I reset to 25. But this affects all teams in the league.
To OP the AI in your case is also not getting the extra player.

Adding the extra player manually or abusing another problem with the 15-day wait time not existing may work in solo mode when you go game by game, but it doesn't work if you are simming through multiple days at a time like in an online league.

This is risky as the AI will not make the smartest decisions knowing that the player is only going to be promoted for a day. It will lead to players on waivers, players added to the 40-man, players released and other oddities that can have long-term effects.
