What is the official difference between putting a starter as a reliever rather than an a reliever?

On twitch there was a comment that PT21 handles relievers differently than PT20. In PT 20 Starters controlled the rotation and bullpen with no negative affects. But what is the advantage to having Rollie Fingers as my closer rather than Pedro Martinez or a starter? I just want to clarify what changed in the version?

Good question, I wonder if we will get an answer to it because I haven't seen any consistent negative effects from last year to this. I wouldn't be against seeing a limit to how many starters could be used in a Perfect Team bullpen, if for nothing else but to change the strategy and gameplay in PT 22. I use nearly all starters in my bullpen mainly because of the stamina factor and that most starters are pretty efficient in the bullpen. I'd also possibly like to see players no longer be trainable to other positions or at least having a couple different PT league universes we can choose from that have different rules.

Option 1.) Original PT Universe (generally the way it plays now)

or

Option 2.) A more strict PT Universe (no position training, 1 or 2 starters in BP for long relief only, ballparks that must abide by MLB design rules, ect, ect.)

Once you choose between either universe, you cannot switch over to another one, but that shouldn't be an issue since people can already have several teams to play in one universe as it is. Sure more servers would be needed, but I'm pretty sure the PT gaming model has brought in some nice revenue over the past couple of years and this could very well bring in even more.

Starters have worse stamina recovery in PT21 vs PT20. They can throw for more innings in a give outing vs. a true RP, but they recover more slowly than true RPs do. In PT20 they recovered at the same rate (or even faster) so you could slot in a pen of like 5 SPs and nothing else and it would be enough.

So Rollie Fingers can close all 3 games on a series, Bob Feller can’t ?

I remember having a traditonal style bullpen in tournaments last year and quickly realizing how bad an idea it was, especially when in Diamond or Gold level tournaments where the lineups were stronger. All it would take for the wheels to fall off would be a couple of really big offensive games and my bullpen would be in a death spiral of fatigue. That was with two long relievers in there as well. It's more pronounced in tournaments since there are no days off in a series than during a PT season.

Yes, exactly this. Feller could throw 2 of 3 days, but maybe he could go 2-3 innings vs 1-2 innings (or one long 4-5 inning outing in relief).
