A quirk? A bug?
OK, so this one falls squarely into the "too good to true" category, to the point that it may well be a bug.
I picked up a FA outfielder on an MiLB contract whereby I only have to pay him the agreed Major League contract if he is promoted within 30 days. In trying to swing another unrelated trade this player was among the MAKE THIS WORK NOW options, which then led me to shop him around just for a lark. The results of this were fascinating. Players offered in return for him included some incredibly high-placed prospects (the highest was an SP at #5). Now unless I am looking at this completely wrong, I could trade a guy I paid nothing for and have a free option on for the next month for a top prospect. That just doesn't seem right, does it? Or would I still be on the hook for the MLB contract if the team I trade him to promotes him? |

You're not on the hook for anything if you trade him. It could just be timing that other teams need him.

It also depends on your trade settings, ie; trade difficulty and what teams favor, if it's the default settings you'll get a lot more offers than if it's set to very hard and heavily favor prospects
