HX replay playoff custom playoff settings lost in subsequent seasons

I did historical league 1954, set for single season, auto expansion on
I changed the playoffs so there is a wild card 7 games, WS 9 games.
That worked for 1954
However, I kept playing through 1955 and it switched back to just standard WS 7 games.
Why is that?

How can I set it so the game uses the defaults from the previous season?

That's due to having auto expansion on.
