Part1
Two parts to importing him could stop you from seeing him,,, so will cover both.
Screenshot 1: Go to www.baseball-reference.com and search for Joh Gibson. he won't cpme up immediately in the results. Screenshot 2: You need to click Negro League Players and you will then see him. Click his link. Screenshot 3: The player id circled is what you will need to seacrh for. Also, since he wasn't in the initial seaarch results... you won't find him in the regular database. Anyone you have to click an extra link to go see (Negro Leagues or Minor League Players), you won't be able to import unless you select some extra options.

Part 2
Will mention a few things you will already know in case they may help someone else.
For those who may not be aware, the import tool in the screenshot can be found by going to the Free Agent tab in game. Use the Actions drop down menu to select IOmport Historical Player(s). 1 - We place the name we found on Baseball Reference in this field. 2 - Use the first year they played ball for their First Season. You can sometimes import them a year or two earlier despite their not playing... but you increase the risk of their importing with an Injury Rating of "Fragile. This is not random... so if you are getting fragile... import using a later year. For Josh Gibson, he played his first year a8 18 in an independent league in 1930... so I use 1930. 3 - You MUST check this as an option if you had to find his player id via the Negro leagues or Minor Leagues links at Baseball-Reference. There are actually two files in your game directory where this information is stored... but Baseball reference is easier 9 out of 10. Other posts can direct you to those files if you want to go down that rabbitt hole. 4 - If this is unchecked, the player will import as a Free Agent. If checked, he will import directly to your Draft Pool should one exist. 5 - This will determine fielding ratings and pitcher stamina. This will override your normal game settings... so ensure it matches what you want. The defualt is to use the first 3 seasons for both... so if you want Craig Biggio to have ratings at 2B... you will need to adjust this.

Just curious, with his limited at bats and with the above weaken/adjust settings, will he play around average or will be play like an all time best player??

Will depend a great deal on your league settings, but in every case where the Talent Development Engine is used... you will have a great deal of variation in stats with a player who is 18 by the time he hits his mid twenties. I play with Talent Development Randomness equal to 1 on a 1-250 scale and I would not bet my life on him being a hall of fame caliber player at 25.
That all said, below is a screenshot of how he imports into my 1-10 rating league. He should import similarly to all leagues at 18 depending on the settings of the league. If you are doing recalc, those weaken factors will come into play far more where a single season of stats becomes important. For initial creation of a player using the Talent Development engine the game has 1957 at bats to work with for a player like Josh.

Thanks.
I play historical with just recalc and tend to forget the development engine that many use. |
