here's the skinny.
Evans RF R: A A:A F%:.997 Hitting Avg. 10 Avoid K's: 7 everything else is poor or fair. career .372 hitter. he also steals around 90 (give or take 10) a year. Thing is he's 37, and he's in his last year of his contract..should i try to get ride of him for some fresh talent?? what would you do? [ 04-22-2002, 11:29 PM: Message edited by: moss2k ] |

I'd probably try to get something good for him, but I would hope the AI would not give up too much for a 37 year old player regardless of ratings. I think the AI will probably say he's too old etc.. If I could not get anything good for him I'd keep him of course
. If he wanted too much $$$ I'd let him go to free agency - maybe pick him up very late in the FA draft if he wants a reasonable 1 year deal.

If hes been with you since he was drafted or within a few years of that, let him finish his career with you.

Also, what's your record? are you in contention for the post-season? If so I think you'd need to hang on to him.
And even if your not in contention I agree with Shorty that if he's been with you his entire career, or most of it, let him finish with you, especially if he has hall of fame numbers. [ 04-22-2002, 11:53 PM: Message edited by: edm ] |

my record is 60-42 (2nd best in the league)...but i have some great pitching so i should be alright w/o him.. career: 2500 hits, only 70 homers, close to 800 steals, 5 time AL all-star, career long 41 game hit streak, hit .400 once and high .390's several other years...i really don't want to get ride of him, but i'm in need of some good prospects. oh yeah, he also got hurt this year for 9 weeks with a broken foot, so he might become injury prone sometime in the near future.

Just keep him. The worst thing that could happen is if one of your main hitters (3 or 4) gets hurt. Then you are S.O.L. And it messes up your whole chemistry. Basicly comes back and bite you in the butt. Just hang on to the old hag. Atleast he is a good one.

In my experience I don't think you will get very much from the computer as far as young prospects. I would keep him myself until he retires unless his contract is about to run out and he wants too much money to resign, I would hope he has enough left in the tank to make a run at 3000 hits.
