Prospect Development Q

I have a 20 year old prospect that has developed nicely, full season in AA and a full season at AAA, performed very well at both. His potential rating has been steadily climbing. He is now a 45 overall and 55 potential. I could make room for an MLB backup role but not a starting role, so should I let him develop more in AAA or bring him up to the Majors in a backup role? I don’t want to stunt his growth.

If he has 500+ At-Bats in the minors and he is excelling I'd call him up and try to work him in as a super utility guy.

Now if his defense needs work or you have time then force start him at a secondary position in AAA to make him a utility option.

For me it would depend on how many AB's I can get him. I view major league ABs as more valuable, so I'm fine bringing up a talented prospect in that situation, as long as I can start them about once every four days.

I think number of AB's is relevant to develop at the minor league level. At the pro level the players development is not tied to the number of AB's.

Wait, really? Huh. That seems kind of arbitrary.
