Free Agent Signing period

In an online league and there are a couple pitchers that are decent but their ask is way too high. I’m assuming that the other GM’s agree. Should you wait for their demand to come down, or send them your best offer and risk pissing them off?

In my experience...

don't assume other GMs are sensible with what they are willing to pay. Make your best offer if it is a starter and don't worry about overpaying. They seem to get over it faster in online leagues, and if people are waiting to bid on a guy you can be surprised and watch an initial offer accepted early. Don't think I have ever had a free agent stop negotiating with me in an online leage (outside of guys who were on my team the previous season).

I wasn’t worried about overpaying I was worried about sending an offer that’s too low. There is a 35 year old guy that had a good season but his ratings are very average, and he wants 5 years 18 mill each. I am willing to give him something much lower and shorter but worried he will be offended and break off communication, and someone else will get the same deal later when he lowers his expectations... but not sure if the mechanics work that way.

I'd think they do, just never really seen it happen in Online. Kind of makes sense in that, even in solo play, you have to make a couple offers they don't like for them to stop talking to you. In Online play there is a good chance that by your third insulting offer they have been signed by someone

If he does break-off he may message you to restart negotiation if he changed his demand but as I play in No Money Online Leagues I am only basing this off my Solo League.

IIRC you can see what other offers the FAs have and just wait and keep checking them until they have a "settling" type of offer on the table. At that point you shouldn't be offending them with a much lower offer than what they initially demanded - their demands should actually be much lower.
