Adding a position to player in int'l complex?

I just signed a 4 star 16 year old on 7-2 but since I have Wander Franco, I don't/won't need him at SS. If I change his position to 3B, will he learn that position? Since there are no games or stats, I can't modify a lineup to make him play there, so I'm hoping that this will influence the AI to "play" him there.

Let him sit in your complex for a year or two then start him at 3B in your lowest minor league team.

They develop in the complex without stats.

Okay. So making him a 3B won't get him to a "1" there?
