Getting Started with Facegens
I've searched around for a bit, and cannot find a primer/intro to working with facegens thread. Can someone point me to one?
I would like to try my hand in creating some, and in helping out with some of the projects here, but I can't find anything that lays out what tools people use, getting started, etc. |

THANK YOU. I was just having a very hard time finding those in search, dunno' why.
There seems to be a challenge on facial hair. The facegen I'm trying to create (Pete Browning) has a big ole' 19th century mustache. I have a face that is passably decent, but no facial hair. I can add the mustache in the game, but unsure how to "embed" it into the .fg file. The FaceGen Artist Demo creates facial hair--like 5 o'clock shadow--but not actual beard/mustache styles. I could add the mustache once in the game, but then, of course, it's not part of the .fg file for the future. |

Posting this in hope it saves someone else down the road some time. One of the challenges with facegen is working from sepia/black and white photos for old time players. In working with that, I have found a couple sets of skin shade/tint settings that seem reasonable. (Disclaimer: this is all for white folks. I will update the thread as I move through the Cuban and African-American NeL and early baseball players.)
These are only guides, and I'm a real n00b here. Will update this thread as I get better. First, in FaceGen Artist Demo, I'm looking at 5 settings: Skin - Flushed/Pale; Skin Shade - Dark/Light; Skin Tint - Orange/Blue; Skin Tint - Purple / Yellow; and Skin Tint - Red/Green. They are interconnected, so moving one also moves the others, sometimes in mysterious ways. The following are meant as guides, not exact values--you will have to make changes, save the .fg file, and import it into the game to see exactly what the results are, and other things--the amount of shadow, the skin texture, etc. will all impact the final result. Pale Skin Rough Defaults Flushed/Pale: ~1 Dark/Light: ~1 Orange/Blue: ~0 Purple/Yellow: ~1 Red/Green: ~1 Tanned Skin Rough Defaults Flushed/Pale: ~1 Dark/Light: ~0.5 Orange/Blue: ~0.5 Purple/Yellow: ~0.5 Red/Green: ~0 |

So, I'm an idiot.
Under MODIFY, there is a tab DEMOGRAPHICS. Fastest way to make things look good here is to play with the age, color, and ethnicity sliders. In general, MONSTROUS = BAD. That's easily the fastest way to deal with things like black and white or sepia photos. |
