League Events Question
Sorry, hope you don't mind if I post on this Forum... this is where most of the gamers are now... it's hard to get help on old version forums.
I am using OOTP19 for this league... have not switched to OOTP20 and 21 yet, but will soon. I need help... don't want to ruin or corrupt my league. I first read everything about the League Events in the OOTP Manual... it did not mention playoffs at all. My league has no playoffs... I checked "no playoffs" in the League Settings. However, I see in League Events that the playoffs are listed on it... also listed on the future events list. (see screenshots) My question: if playoffs are listed on the League Events and on the future league events list, it makes sense that the AI thinks there will be playoffs... right? I don't want playoffs... please note I checked "Disable Playoffs" in League Settings. Should I delete Playoffs from the League Events? Or should I just ignore what's on the League Events schedule and let the game play out as is? My concern is that the AI may just list Playoffs on the League Events screen and show it on the upcoming League Events schedule, but just ignore them and not have any playoffs... that it would abide by the "Disable Playoffs" in League Settings. I am confused my this... hope someone will know the definitive answer. As all of you know, all leagues are precious to all of us and it hurts when we screw them up. Sorry for the selfish bump, but it would be nice to get an answer.
Don't want this to drop off page one. I checked "Disable Playoffs" in setting up the league, but the AI ignored it as has playoffs scheduled in League Events. Anyone know what will happen if I delete the "Playoffs Begin" instructions? Will this corrupt my league? |

You can more or less ignore the league events in that case. When the regular season ends it should flip right over to off-season mode if you have playoffs disabled.

Yep, everything went fine... but it is confusing to see Playoffs in the League Events when you disabled the Playoffs. |

It would be nice to know how to correct this so the game will function according to the instructions you choose... checking "Disable Playoffs" should mean no playoffs.... but that's not what happened. It scheduled playoffs and played a single-elimination tournament between the four league winners... I did not want playoffs.. they were disabled, but played anyway. I hope this doesn't mess up my league history. 2020 Hindsight: I think I should have deleted the Playoffs from the League Events... maybe the playoffs would not have been scheduled... but then again, this may have caused other problems. When you say the 4 league winners, what do you mean by that? If you had an association of leagues, then association playoffs are a separate matter and have to be disabled in the association setup.

I have two leagues with two subleagues each... separate leagues with no interleague play.... and did not want playoffs. I did not knowingly set up an association. Is the above setup an association? If this occurs each season with the League Events showing Playoffs will begin, what will happen if I deleted "Playoffs Begin" in the League Events? Will this deletion cause any other problems? |

I will see if I can find where to change this... hope the manual will cover it.

One final question.
Could I just delete the "Playoffs Begin" from the League Events? Would this solve it, so that the playoffs are not scheduled? |

I never created an Association.
I found where you can set one up, but I never did that. Matt: unless you tell me otherwise, I am going to delete "Playoffs Begin" in the League Events and see what happens. Last edited by Eugene Church; 05-06-2020 at 11:43 PM. |

I would be careful deleting anything from the League Events. I've seen some weird things happen and typically there is no way to reverse that (i.e. if you ever added playoffs it wouldn't come back).

If you have the disable playoffs box checked in the league, then when the league regular season is over, no playoffs are scheduled. Simple as that. Now, you mentioned there being some form of playoffs scheduled between 2 separate leagues. The only way that can happen is if either: -they are in an association together, and have association playoffs enabled -or, you have a tournament scheduled to draw in teams from different leagues. Now, maybe there's something else going on (is this was actually just one league with multiple subleagues/divisions), but again, if you have the disable playoffs flag set, then we don't schedule any playoffs. Although I notice you also have the tiebreakers button checked. So what could also be happening if is your division winners are tied, then the game would schedule tiebreak games between them potentially to resolve to a league champion. Does any of that seem possible? |

You would hope that you could enable or disable items before each season if you so desired. |

The playoffs ones aren't like that, thankfully. Most items that have an explicit rule setting (ie. playoffs enabled or not, spring training enabled or not), internally the game will rely on the rule setting rather than checking whether league events are scheduled or not. |

I did not create an association.... and I did not schedule a tournament... the game ran a tournament on its own... or a playoff of its own. I checked tiebreaker because I wanted a champion decided in a playoff if teams tied for first place... should I disable the tiebreaker?... do you think this is what caused the problem. If I uncheck "Tiebreaker", will the game allow me to schedule playoff games at the end of the season to decide ties for first place? That might be a solution. Here are the screenshots... see if you see anything that could cause the four-team playoff. |

Can you post a screenshot of the Playoff Game that was scheduled?

Matt Arnold, thank you for taking the time to help me.
Hope the above will give you enough information to figure out why its schedules Playoff Begins in the League Events, when I do disable Playoffs in the League Settings. You may be right... checking Tiebreaker may be the problem... I will uncheck Tiebreaker, if the game will allow me to schedule playoff games should I have a tie for first place in any of the four leagues... or to settle any ties to determine the promotion/relegation teams. |
