Amateur Draft Lack of Talent
I tried searching the forums and didn't see any one ask about this. I'm on my 3rd season and there is a lack of talent every year. I haven't had a single 5 star prospect yet, and get only a couple 4 stars. I'm playing MLB, 100% scouting accuracy, player creation modifiers are default, no feeder leagues. Draft is set for 35 rounds, creates players for 36. Should I bump that up?
Anyone else notice this? If so, any recommendations? I'm seeing good things about feeder leagues, which is something I've never quite figured out, so I don't use them. |

Are you using relative ratings?

Thanks for the reply. Let's say for future draft classes I wanted 10-15 non-reliever 5 star prospects and about 10-15 4 star. How would I change the player creation modifiers to get some where in that range? I'm going to do some testing, but you seem to know what you're talking about, so I'm hoping you can give me a good starting point. Thanks in advance.

If you launch the default game with full mlb/milb you will be lucky to have 2 dozen 5 star players in the entire game. And a handful of them will be 16/17 year olds who never become that. The others are basically the super stars everyone knows and then a handful of prospects rated highly.
So having 10-15 five star potential guys in the draft each year is pretty crazy. But its your game so play it the way that gives you the most enjoyment. 1st you probably want entirely fictional draft pools and then you would want to crank up your PCM numbers. They are all set to 1. So you would need to increase this. Then probably create 10-20 extra round of players in the draft. Then run tests 5 to 10 years out and see if it gets you the desired results you are after. This might either create exactly what you need, be overboard or not enough. Which is where all that testing comes in. |

I've always had issues with Potential Ratings. To me, when you're talking about 1st round potential, there should be high potential ratings. The scouting report is where a scout would give his/her opinion on a players odds of reaching that potential. Thats where I think personality traits and physical tools should play a bigger role...but this is an entire different and very long conversation. |
