The Most Frustrating Blown No-hitter Ever
Picture this. It's 1970. I am the manger of the Chicago White Sox. Our knuckleballer, Wilbur Wood, is pitching a no-hitter against Cleveland. There are two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. John Lowenstein is up for the Indians. STRIKE THREE- but wait, the ball gets past the catcher. Lowenstein is safe on a passed ball. Up steps pinch-hitter Ted Uhlander. He slaps a double down the left-field line ending the no-hitter. Next up is Tony Horton. He doubles to right-center scoring two to end the shut out. Then Greg Nettles strikes out to end the game. The White Sox win 7-2, but I am left cussing up a storm.

It would have been worse if the White Sox had been leading 1-0.

If you feel bad think about how the catcher feels.

That catcher needs to be cut immediately!

As Bob Uecker said, the best way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling, then pick it up.

Harvey Haddix would probably take issue with the title of the thread. For the uninitiated, Haddix once took a perfect game into the 13th inning and lost.

Not as bad as in real life when with 1 out to go in a PERFECT GAME by Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga, the umpire botches a routine out call at first base to ruin the perfect game.
