How Do You Set Your Playoff Matchups?

Should it be best record vs wildcard or best record vs 4th seed?

In my fictional league it's 1 vs 8. There are no conferences or divisions or different leagues. Short 68 game schedule. Every team plays every other team 4 times. 18 teams total. Top 8 teams get in. As I expand I may do a wild card game to see who gets that 8th seed but for now I feel the team with the 8th best record deserves it.

Either way I'm screwed. I'm 8-12 vs Willowbrook, 1-5 vs Panasonic.Willowbrook is 4-2 vs Anderson.
