7 Innings

Hi, I was wondering if there was anyway I could change the game so that its 7 innings instead of 9 so I could create an as real as possible high school league.

I don't think so, plus no way to use the HS DH rule.

It would be very cool to see this stuff added one day. I suspect so few people use it that it's not seen as a priority though.

Would be fun to have 6 inning games for a Little League, and have a 10 run mercy rule

Then we could follow careers from age nine to Cooperstown!

OOTP is a professional baseball management sim. It was not created to simulate a low level amateur environment.

OOTP can be anything I want it to be

no it's not. There's plenty of baseball writers pushing for 7 innings in the future. Even for this season, they are talking about 7-inning double headers. Personally I would hate to see it, but its a very real possibility at some point

Apparently not if you can't create a league with high school, little league, or T-ball rules.

I think an option for 7 inning games would be pretty cool, but I do wonder how complicated something like that would be for Markus to code? In non DH leagues, would the game know to pinch hit for a pitcher in the 5th or 6th inning of a close game? If the AI doesn't handle 7 inning games correctly, users would lose interest very quickly.

As far as AI coding goes, that sort of thing would probably be relatively easy. Other things less so, I would imagine.

Yet we can play in high school leagues?

With pro rules, yes.

There's simply so many places that we have 9 innings defaulted in. So yeah, changing the PH logic to trigger a couple innings early is early, but there's just so many places that assume 9 innings for a game that it would be a serious task to drop down to 7 and have things still work. Never mind whether this would have to be a league-wide setting vs be able to change things game by game.

It will happen someday, I'm sure. But I don't think any of us are looking forward to the work needed to get it going.

Yes,of course. I don't really expect a simulation that starts with a kid's first game of catch with Dad. But one can muse. . . .

To kind of hijack this, I assume this is a similar reason why we can't have regular season games end in ties? Some leagues around the world have allowed that over the years, and it would be cool to have as an option one day.

While that is true, there have been discussions to make double headers only 7 innings each in the MLB like in college. I like the idea.

Some minor leagues have 7 inning double headers too (although that might only be the second game).
