Prospect rights owned but signed to another team
I'm new to the game so forgive me if this is covered elsewhere or an obvious answer but I have a strange situation.
In my first season running the Lightning I traded Nolan Foote's rights to the Senators for Lassi Thomson's rights to shore up my D prospect depth. Fast forward to the end of my second season and when I went to sign him before his rights expired I can't...because he's signed by the Senators and played both AHL & NHL games for them last season. How can he show up on my unsigned prospects list yet be signed by the team I traded with? As a 2019 draft pick I should've had until the 2021 offseason (where I am now) to sign him shouldn't I? What am I missing here? Last edited by canuck09; 04-29-2020 at 09:22 PM. |

Adding to this...as I hit September and get my big development update there's Thomson at the top of my list of players with the Senators noted as his current team. Should this be happening?

I'm wondering if the trade happened while Thomson had an open contract offer from the Senators and it didn't cancel properly, which would leave him contracted to them until it expired and he became your RFA (since you own his rights.) If you can upload the save (instructions here), I'd like to have a look at exactly what went wrong there, and I should be able to fix it for you.

Thanks for the quick response and for offering to take a look. I've uploaded my file (HFNHL.zip) and hopefully it's not some obvious mistake by me!
