Question New To PT - Looking For Written Guides, Advice To Augment My Unusual Starter Luck

Grabbed OOTP 21 this past week after not playing it for several years.
Perfect Team scratches all of my itches for hooking me in.

I started on Wednesday and I was trucking along decently (top 6-8 in my Entry Pool). I found a guide for doing the collections and I have been plugging away at those. Currently finished the Live Cards for Sea, KC, Bal, SF, Tor, Ari, Bos, LAA & Det. Randy Johnson is the obvious standout, currently 21-1 for me!

I started trying Iron tournaments and I have placed in the card pack payouts 3 times in maybe 30+ attempts. BUT. Here is my extremely unusual stroke of luck.
My first ever pack reward I pulled the All Time Legend 2007 Alex Rodriguez (100) card

Needless to say, this and a few decent auction buys and I have improved Sitting top of my Entry Pool now and looking to plan for the real leagues ahead.

Really digging the nature of slowly upgrading my roster and planning for the future.
Here is where I need help. I am a written guide kinda guy, and I have struggled to find anything to help with PT 21.
Should I slowly and incrementally improved positions? Save up and get the massive upgrade that will live in my line-up for a long time?

Does anyone have any links they could share?
I'd love to read experienced advice on where I should be looking to upgrade first, what directions I should be heading in etc...

If anyone is interested in specifics and could give short term guidance on my next moves, here is my current roster

Pitching

Batting

Varitek has been a massive letdown to date
I am VERY close to finishing the Houston collection, so the 97 Bagwell will be available to me soon

As you move up Live cards become mostly useless.

How fortunate you were to get that Alex Rodriguez card so early on!

If you're going to complete the Live missions it makes the most sense to concentrate on completing one league before the other, because that shortens the time until you get the league specific reward card. And once you pick a league to concentrate on, it's best to work division by division because then you accelerate getting the division reward cards.

Once you complete all the live missions and have the rewards, take a short break and see how your team does. At that point you'll likely be in a league where many of the teams are full of the live reward cards (I'd guess a gold League). After observing and tinkering with your team a bit you will get some ideas about upgrades.

I look at the other teams in my leagues for ideas - you can see which players do better (or worse) than expected. This is effective at the higher levels because you will undoubtedly run into some very good teams as you advance up the levels.

Good luck.

Thank you to the helpful replies!
That was the guide I had found, it is excellent!

The advice on concentrating on specific Live Missions to get Divisional and League rewards is such a good one! I was simply trying to cherry pick the cheaper ones first, but not now

Finished the AL West to get Ichiro who is amongst my favorite players, now closing in on the AL Central and then just 5 massively overpriced Yankees until I can finish the AL East and AL as a whole in one go Cano and Mussina will fill a pair of gaps in my roster too!

You guys have helped me make a 10-1 start in my Rookie League and given joy - in these times, thanks!

Completing the Live Missions will allow to to assemble a monster lineup in the lower levels. Max your ballpark factors and have Bagwell leadoff. Trust me on that one.

I still platoon Ichiro in CF in Diamond. The 99 Maddux you gain is one of the most effective cards in the game. In fact my supposedly star studded big PP team has been beaten by teams consisting of mainly SE cards in Diamond.

They are no slouches

Time to pick a team direction and start targeting Upgrades to fit your theme.

This might help:

Also think about revenue sources. Passive PP collection won't pay the bills.
