Where did this player come from

I'm about 20 years into my current league that started in OOTP20 with default settings. I was just checking out the free agents and noticed a 25 year old free agent 1B. He has no previous stats and no history. My only scouting report on him is just a week old. He just appeared out of nowhere. He's not international. Where would he have come from? Does the game randomly create free agents like this? I've been playing this game for years and I've never seen this before.

I'm pretty sure you have generate independent free agents turned on.

In league setup, on the rules tab, right side about half way down there is a box you can check - "Disable automatic creation of free agents".

See if you have that checked. These type game created players don't have anything in history to show where they came from.

Is that "Generate free agents from independent leagues"? I do have that turned on. I never noticed it before. Thanks.

His name's Van Winkle. He has no history because he's been asleep for 20 years, obviously.

It must have somehow gotten triggered when I converted to OOTP21, because I've never seen any of these free agents before and have seen several in this draft class. And it's an issue because they are demanding far lower salaries than other free agents with similar ratings would demand. It wouldn't matter if the created players were all very lowly rated, but some of them are pretty good.

Yeah anything random created is bad but they have been that way for several versions. I turned off all the radnom created players in ootp 19 and just went full universe. mlb, milb, all internationals, all indies.

much rather have a full universe than random created players especially how often some of these random guys are created as HoF monsters.
