AI trade makes no sense

I traded a vet to the Yankees for a AAA player who was on their 40 man, making the minimum. The Yankees never moved him off designated for assignment......the period ended, and he became a free agent.

is there any logical reason for this? it cost them $$ and a decent prospect

trading on very hard / favor prospect. scouting accuracy on high

You don't automatically become a free agent. You are only allowed to be DFA for 7 days then you have to put on 40 man, demoted if option, traded, cut or waived.

So they had to cut him or waiver him when they got him. Not sure of specifics of the trade or if they just wanted that AAA guy off their 40 man.

But def strange

not sure what they did, but they traded for him and then cut him. is it possible the trade AI is not smart enough to assess players that are injured when they make a trade, in terms of when they will come back? I can't think of anyhting else....why trade for a guy you are going to dump?
