Hack Wilson CF rating 38

How can Hack Wilson 1930 record breaker have a CF rating of 38
with
RNG = 65
ERR = 21
Arm = 91

?

Also folder older player where there likely is no information how are things like running speed calculated

Arm is worth very, very little to the CF rating and Error is fairly important (EDIT: Not that important, actually. It's all about range for CF). Range is the biggest factor though. When I get back to my computer, I can better quantify the ratio for you.

I have seen several people re-train Hack Wilson into a LF or RF player.

He should reach mid-to-high 70s positional rating in both of those positions granted you play him long enough in those positions.

Unfortunately, I do not know how the developers determined and calculated the speed rating for his card. Given the low speed, steal and base running ratings, he won't steal many bases.

Follow-up on the ratios. The OF Ratings are affected in the ratios below (eg. a point of Range for LF will increase the rating ~5x as much as point in Arm does). There's also some minimum combined requirements thresholds, but that's pretty complicated and only affects guys who are obviously not made for playing the OF.

Range : Error : Arm
LF 29.5 : 4 : 5.75
CF 43 : 3.5 : 1.75
RF 25.5 : 4 : 11

There's a fair number of older players who have abominable error ratings. I understand some of it is to reflect the poor equipment of the tie, and the resulting higher error rates. When I start seeing Kaline and Clemente with crappy error rates, my blood boils. Somebody needs to review this.

Exactly! I though OOTPB normalized things.
Like Al Kaline had crappy equipment, traininer, no videos etc etc.
But if you put Al Kaline in todays world with all its amenities one would think he would still be cream of the crop
