Scheduling vs. payroll?

I thought I might start a custom league with two 5-team divisions. I was wondering if I cut the games played down to around 80 games or so, will this significantly affect my ability to re-sign players, etc. due to the decrease in revenue that my team will have? For those who have done so do you have any ideas? Thanks for responding.

During testing several of us simmed "short seasons" for about 30-40 seasons and the leagues balanced out ok. I don't remember exact numbers but there were no major problems that I recall.
