Is there anyway to play a season by using players from all different era's? Like having Greg Maddux in his prime pitching too Ty Cobb in his prime,?

Yes. On the opening screen, choose New Quickstart Game, then choose All Time Greatest. That's a pre-configured league with the greatest players of all time.

Mixing players from different eras is all I ever do

You can also play random debut historical. You'll get Joe Schmoe's in there too, but that's important for talent balance in your league.

if only there were some online repository of information regarding this game. something with details on the options and settings available and maybe even some screenshots.

wanna try some crazy stuff? just try it and see how it goes. a little research can avoid wasting time, of course. the creation wizard has most options clearly laid out. go down a wrong path and simply restart the game creation.
