Detroit Tigers Quickstart -- 2018 Offseason

I started a franchise from the MLB Quickstart with the Detroit Tigers. I am now in the 2018 offseason (congratulations to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2018 World Series Champions).

I am attempting to trade Miguel Cabrera to free up room to make a run at Bryce Harper.

Was wondering if anyone has had success trading Cabrera, and if so how? How much of his contract did you have to retain? Who was your partner?

I realize everyones game is different, just wondering. Currently option I am working on right now is with the Blue Jays, but the deal is feeling very much like they are trying to take advantage.

first, try to move him first day of offseaon, not day one of a new game. lots of budget space is available.... you can find more than one trade partner where you do not have to eat any salary in this context.

he's abit old now, so not sure what you can get. his ratings aren't what they were just a couple releases ago, too. i haven't re-made the real tigers in a while, now.

you can get some good young prospect, and maybe even a good young current mlb player.

in the past, i would often get the braves 1b slugger for him straight up or with little added value. i doubt you can get goldschmidt for him now. or whatever his name is... a SO-machine,but decent average and good power -- goldschmidt or the guy i am thinking of, if not.

start with shop player... see who is offering the most and go check out their roster for better choices. the new shop feature is improved, maybe you even see a good option there, but i wouldn't stop there... even so, look into other options on that team and in their MiL... preferably a few teams then pick best option.

finding a good trade takes effort, in spite of the hand-holding they've added to 'shop player around'.

too many in forums wanted the game to do the work that differentiates a successful player from an average player. they want the game to generate a list of top players willing to be given up ... which is just lazy, imo. not much of a game if it does the work and all we do is click 'find trade' lol.

but, hey.. this is the "Everonye gets an "A" generation." i shouldn't expect anything less.

In a standard game a while back I also traded him to Toronto. I think the main piece back was Estrada (who was absolutely terrible, but did save me some money). Since then I've adjusted the way I like to play and with more difficult trade setting it is pretty much impossible to trade him unless you get an even worse deal in return. Buuuuut, in my second save my team was so bad that he got sad/mad and decided to retire 3 years early.... leaving almost 100 million on the table!
