Putting starters as Utility 1 and a starter?

So my backup Catcher starts at 1b against lefties. This leaves the utility 1 spot open in my depth chart for Catcher. Can I put that player in the Utility 1 position for Catcher as well as keeping the player as a starting 1b against lefties? If my starting Catcher gets tired, the backup will leave 1b and play Catcher and the utility 1b will then play 1b for that game?

Can OOTP do this?

Yes. Just make sure "Auto-Sync Lineups" is selected.

No, it doesn't work that way. This has been addressed before. Unclicking the synchronize box is mostly a cosmetic setting. The AI will ignore subs that are also listed as starters and only start them.

So if my Starting Catcher (or any position for that matter) gets tired and needs rest, he must still start.

So it's more important in OOTP to have one or two players that can be the backup for all positions rather than having the best players on your team like RL.

You can do a 7 day schedule. Or simply play a couple games and force your starter to sit if he needs rest. You can even get a third catcher and let the 3 alternate with DH or 1B. Then, any other infielder can backup at first, or any other player at DH. The issue is the same for any position with no backup.

When I don't have a backup listed, the AI seems to use whomever on the bench it can find and play them. So that's how I used to find my 1B at SS, or CF at 3B. The reality is, after looking at Boston, NY and TB, that 3 out of 3 teams, don't use catchers anywhere except catchers. Exactly 438 out of ~450 games that were started by someone who was a catcher, was as a catcher. MLB (at least those 3 teams), don't use backup catchers anywhere else.

It's not just catchers. OOTP has players that only play one OF position or just SS or just 2b. I want starters to rest when needed, but OOTP seems to limit where players can play.

I don't understand. I've never had OOTP limit what position I could play someone at.
