Game Engine - Order of Events Question
After researching a little, I thought plate appearances were calculated like this:
That was until I opened the editor and fiddled with Gap numbers. I found that if I increase a player's Gap number, his Power number increases as well. That suggests to me 2B&3B are calculated before homers. I tried to find a discussion of this my Googling turned up nothing specifically about doubles and triples. Any thoughts about the order of events from the guys who have been in the weeds on this? |

You're taking away the magic man...
Honestly I don't know how it is calculated. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

OK, this is a weird one. I’ve done more testing.
I found the issue playing around with the editor. I picked Adam Frazier (2018 season) at random. Upped his doubles from 33 to 38 and hit “Create current ratings based on stats”. When I did, his Gap went up as expected. Surprisingly his Power went up from 47 to 50. If I up his Gap directly his Power doesn’t change. I’ve also tried a few other players (using both methods) but Power doesn’t change when I increase Gap. I don’t know what to make of the issue. When I have time I will test more players with above average Gap and below average Power and see if I can replicate the change. |

When creating the rating based on Stats, maybe it is using Slugging Percentage and not just Home Runs for Power?

Maybe he needed that extra power to hit 5 more doubles. I think Gap is the ability to hit into the "gap" not necessarily meaning more extra base hits. That's likely where the small bump in Power comes from. |
