AI handling of FAs requesting MiLB contracts that become MLB contracts if promoted in 30 days
I think there may be an AI issue here. Basically, the AI GMs seem to ignore a lot of these players, even though they do value them.
It's near the end of spring training so I went to see who was still left and probably getting a bit desperate at this point. I found Lucas Duda, who at 33 and playing 1B, is not a rock star. But in this reality he hit 32 homers and had 86 RBI in 2018. He rates at 2.5 stars, and his current batting stats are 40/50/65/60/30. Not the next superstar, but no slouch either.
All he wanted was a minor league contract that became a guaranteed MLB contract worth $2.4m if promoted within 30 days. Basically, a "no risk trial." I know there are teams that he could help, but nobody signed him.
So I did, and he immediately accepted. So I shopped him around. Teams were offering all sorts of stuff. Not just the usual salary dump junk either -- young players, up to 3 star potential.
Some were minor leaguers, so I could basically sign these guys, trade and get a free prospect.
Now obviously it's a single player game and I can just "not do this" since it's kind of an exploit and would ruin the fun for myself. But I am wondering if this sort of behavior is intentional.. why wouldn't some of the AI GMs want to give these guys "free test drives" during spring training?
I actually picked up an RP this way I may keep, and I also found Eduardo Nunez sitting around, who if nothing else is a very nice utility player and didn't want much money.
