Humble request for some future version
Please make some provision where both the name files & the world-default file are not automatically overwritten during an update. At the very least, please provide a popup or reminder of some kind stating that these files will be overwritten during the update process.
This has actually been a perennial issue with OOTP, but it's more of a pressing one in 19 because of the changes that have been made to how the game handles names/ethnicities. We can now add as many names/ethnicities to the game as we want, meaning that hours upon hours of work can easily be overwritten during the installation of a patch if you're not careful....which sometimes, I'll admit, I'm not. Of course, I'm always careful to backup up my files, but there are times when I lose track of which version of a name file (I edit them a lot, especially during historical sims) is loaded in the game, or if I even remembered to reload them at all after the last patch update. Yes, sometimes things have to be made idiot-proof for idiots. Therefore, as idiot #1, I hereby humbly request something...anything...that could make the loss of this data less likely during a patch installation.

Exactly - any league already started won't be affected by those changes unless you re-import in league setup.

Anytime there's a patch, before installing it I always go into my OOTP folder and rename the caps, jerseys, logos, database, bbcards, and ballparks subfolders (to bak_caps, bak_jerseys, etc.). Then after patching, I delete the new versions of these folders and restore the names of the "bak_"'d ones.
It would be cool if the game could eventually get a "mods" subfolder that the game would check first, and use any files it found there in place of the default ones... |

OH NO!!!!!!
I didn't realize that the update would overwrite my work and I did just that. Spent hours on the world_default file without making a backup!!! ![]() ![]()

I am so upset right now....
I spent so many days on that names file changing the frequencies of names to what I wanted.... I had no idea an update would erase it...Oh my gosh, what an idiot I am..... |

This was one of the most unenjoyable tasks I have ever done for an OOTP game, but I feel like I can't play it until I redo the frequencies. But I really don't want to redo it. Does anyone know a shortcut to redoing frequencies other than manually redoing them? I just lost about a week of my life because of not backing up...

Sorry to hear about that, Rosco. Trust me, you're not the only one. It's probably little consolation, but I can confirm that this has happened to at least one other person who posts here, and I see him every time I look in a mirror.

The only other time something like this happened, I lost two seasons of a league that I play out every pitch. I was so devastated that I didn't play OOTP for almost a full year.
I don't think that will happen this time, but I don't know what to do. I don't want to continue with my season until I fix the name frequencies......but I really don't want to sit there and do that again..... |

I feel like I remember someone changing frequencies as well. Is there anyone who would be willing to copy their names file?

If you already started your season it will have used the world file from when you originally created the league. So if you created the league with your modified file you're good to go with that league.

Well I had started the league long before I edited the name file. But then I reimported it in
