OOTP 19 Features on Different Platforms
Will the Linux version have all the features as the Windows release this year?
If not, what will be omitted? |

Doesn't it typically have all the same features?

No. Speech comes to mind.

Well unless I'm mistaken (which is possible), that's not a missing feature. To the best of my understanding, the game doesn't actually have a speech function itself, it simply can make use of the one the Windows has.
So if you're on a Linux distro that has the same speech function as Windows or something compatible and can read the pronunciation files the game provides, the game should be able to do speech. If not, then not. Either way, afaik that's more an OS limitation than a missing feature or game limitation.

As far as I know, the game is the same on all platforms and includes all features on each platform.
There might be a bug on one platform that's not on another but no features are intentionally left out.

I'm not a coder / programmer, but I would think somewhere there are Linux tools for speech synthesis. But the game would still need to be written to utilize them.
Thanks for the quick response. |

Code:
(echo "This is linux text to speech") | festival --tts I think at one point OOTP did have this working and then it didn't work. But no one complained because well, you used it once and never used it again and no one put in a report that it didn't work. |

Thanks homerj .. I'll look into this.
With 3D on the horizon for everyday play, I find having speech is more and more essential, rather than reading each play, as the eyes can only be in one place at a time. I installed festival, but have no voice packs installed. |

Wouldn't it be fun if there were voice packs that sounded like Vin Scully, or Matty V, or William Daniels (KITT), or Leonard Nimoy?

Perfect Team will not be available on Linux once it's added in Summer, other than that, all features are supported as far as I know.
