More graphs!
OOTP has a ton of numbers and statistics, but I think the only graph in the game is win probability in game logs.
Graphs are useful for seeing changes over time. They can help tell the story of a season's race to the pennant, or of a player's ups and downs, or a youngster's development. And they are just fun to look at. To start, I think perhaps there should be a screen where you can first select a league to examine. Once that is selected, you can maybe get a "view" just like in the lineup screen that gives you check-boxes for all the statistics you can select to view on that page. Checking multiple boxes puts overlapping graphs on the page. You can customize the "view" just like lineup views, but this lets you select what data checkboxes are shown to be able to graph, in different categories like team data (data that will show a graph of some stat for each team) or league averages or totals, etc. When you select the league, in addition to what I mention above, you should also get an addition drop down box to select a single team, if you want. Selecting a team here changes the view to data just about a single team, like team averages and totals, or players' data (that will show a graph line for each player on the team). But you also should have a drop down box for selecting single player from the team, and then again it will change the checkbox options to individual statistics. Graphs can use different scales based on what type of data it is, so averages use one scale, counted numbers (like hits, HRs) use another scale overlapping the first, etc. It might be nice to have 2 drop down boxes in each case to do comparisons between teams or players or even leagues. Maybe also an option to choose league averages or team averages as data lines to compare against. The ability to easily change the time scale would be nice, so you could potentially see changes over multiple years. Also, there could be some kind of link on player pages and elsewhere to go straight to the graph page to view that player's data. Maybe clicking on data in a player's page takes you right to the graph of that statistic. Go play some other sports games with graphs. I haven't played football manager in a while, but I can recall they had plenty of graphs and data available that I always enjoyed browsing. |
