Disappointed again....
This is frustrating ! But I LOVE THIS GAME and can't wait for OOTP 19
Now into my 60th year in career mode, I update windows on my CPU and now the game file is gone.....back-up and all ! Cant load game as world.dat is missing. No idea what to do........this has happened before....more than once Not sure what I am missing.....CPU is new. Any chance "One-Drive" is causing any problems....... Any chance my file could ne somewhere I'm not looking. Thank you in advance Last edited by chrisvasey; 02-12-2018 at 10:51 PM. |

When you say the game file is gone, do you mean world.dat or the ootp.exe?

verify that data directories are pointing to the correct folders... where is your .lg folder? when you first load game (not league) click "Settings" and i think Export or .. 1 of a few tabs to look through, i bet you can find it
![]() typical folders: <game>\data\saved games -- is possible... possibly in my documents.. depends on your installation choices. "\data" is where your data path should point to. (not saved games, in case that was not obvious, but need to click there to see if word got deleted) mac? can't help at all on location. try re-installing after you check for the existence of files / verify directories. updating doesn't delete things (ootp or windows updates). so, it's probably still there. maybe some settings got cleared / altered on accident. did you restore a windows backup from before installation of ootp, recently? Run any "cleaner" programs -- those cause numerous issues with other apps? -- registry and/or file cleaners. think of anything you've run recently that maybe you haven't in the past or for a very long time before ootp was installed. this is 99% most likely self-inflicted. we all do it. edit: one more thing to add to list of potentials -- copy contents of "auto-save" directory in your .lg saved game directory (when you find it)... keep the copy safe. if you do 'find' the league to load in game and it does not work for some reason, you can try #2 with the contents of Auto-save directory... reasont ot copy: if oyu open and close a league, it will auto-save and copy over contents of the auto-save directory... possibly copying over non-corrupted files with corrupted files... so keep a copy of it safely outside the data\saved game\<league>.lg directories. edit: take this to tech support forum if it's not resolved... read for ideas if you wish:
Auto-save is a folder, just in case it's not a miscommunication. your data folder can be installed in different locations. (data files as in the files located in the .lg folder? but \data\.. directory is full of various folders and thousands of pics and such, correct? or missing files limited to your .lg directory which contains similarly named folders as the main data folder) do you have some intrusive antivirus software creeping about? seriously, norton and mcafee suites are bloated piles of steaming poop for everyday computer uses. it's a new computer, so the hdd has SMART capabilities. download a free software like CrystaDisk Info. the state of the drive will not be "good" or "100%" if there is a problem. no experience necessary to read that much, i promise. files don't just haphazardly go missing. either a program is deleting stuff because it thinks it's malacious, you have a virus that is malacious, hardware/os failure, or a system restore or similar backup feature was used... not limited to, but must be similar in nature to those things. check hdd function, repair windows, turn off any AV software feature that might delete your personal files over very likely false-positive results. (or leave it on and make sure it asks you before doing anythign like that) you really want it to be somethign simple like a rogue program you installed that's just junk (cleaners, av software in general, "speed up" software et al.)... hardware failure requires replacement and potentially lose more stuff in meantime. virus - potentially lose more stuff, full format/reinstall etc most likely worst it gets. Hopefully the tech support can help you on this ...
But that link might be a good idea for you in the future PSA: Back up your leagues! I had problems with backups before, but since zipping my complete league file everything's perfect

Do always be careful about backing up data before upgrading Windows. It's possible your files are gone, but it's also likely that they're just sitting somewhere else that you don't expect.
First off, you need to figure out where the game thinks your data files are. You can get that I believe on the entry page, if you click on settings, and then go to the troubleshooting tab, there should be a button that's like "open folder containing saved games" or "open folder containing game data". Open that up, and double check that it's empty. Keep this window open, since you'll want your stuff here once you find it. First off, if this folder is something different than something like "C:\Users\Matt\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 18", then there's a chance that on re-installing the game it picked a new spot to look for data files. Try to find that above path (or a similar one) and see if your files are sitting there. If they aren't then what might have happened is that Windows moved all the files on upgrade to a backup directory. Usually something like Windows.old. If you navigate to there, you can try to trace through those directories. There's probably a "Windows.old/users/Matt/Documents" folder there, and you can likely find your saved game there. It will be a folder called "New Game.lg" (or whatever your league is called). Now, if you copy that entire folder to the first location, where the game is searching for your game data files, when you click on the Load Game button, you should see your game file there. Hopefully this works to restore things. If not, submit a ticket and hopefully our support team can help you further. |

The OP said “update”, not “upgrade”. Updates should not be moving files. Sounds like a bad hard drive to me. I would run chkdsk and see what it reports.

I don't have much to add beyond the suggestions above from a tech support standpoint.
Are any of your saves still in the OOTP saved_games folder at all? I will just add that it's highly unlikely this is a game issue, it's quite certainly likely an issue with either a bad hard drive as Orcin mentioned or some other program on your computer moving or deleting files. Do you use any sort of disk cleaning utilities? What anti-virus and firewall do you use?

I stumbled on this post as this just happened to me. I believe the cause was running out of space on my computer. As I finished a season and went to save issues arose. Said world.dat was missing. I looked in the files for that save and the world thing was gone. Did a search on my computer. Found it. Put it back and league is saved!
