Why not 1800's
I'm sure this has been asked before, but why can't the game import teams or create historical seasons from the 1800's? I run an unusual league where we began in 1997 and have gone backwards in time, so that now we're in 1906. After 6 seasons, I'm going to have to give up OOTP and go to a different program, because I can't enter 300 players by hand every season. It's particularly unfortunate now that OOTP5 has just come out and I'll barely be able to use it for my on-going league.
Is there some way around this? -Grant Sterling |

I agree 100% that the game do better with the 1800s players.
However, I'm not sure if you're aware that you can import pre-1900 players. They don't have to be created from scratch. In fact, if you finish the year, say, 1898, you can just click "yes" for real rookies and it will import those from 1899. For your league, it sounds like it would be somewhat more complicated, but you can certainly import the players on an individual basis.

A very interesting a novel league idea there Grant.
How does it work? I'm assuming you import the rookies every year (your in 1990 and you import 1989). How do you deal with the situation that alot of the rookies you will be importing will be actually playing in your league already? Just curious. |

People have been complaining about this one for a while, and it's never really been directly addressed, to my knowledge. I think the only reason pre-1900 hasn't been available is that the game can't handle a pre-AL setup. It expects an NL and AL. It would make sense to at least let us import the teams, though, or do a mass-import of all the players and put them in the FA pool.

Well, I have to do it all by hand. Let's say 1906 has just ended. I start a new historical league for 1905. Then I dump all the players into the free agent pool, and sign them onto their correct teams. [I'm not using the financial system.] Then the free agents that are left are eligible to be drafted. [Obviously, they're mostly players who retired in that season. So you end up drafting an old Jesse Burkett, and watching him get younger and better....]
But I also know of people who want to do 'greatest team' leagues, and they can't import teams from the 1800's. Since this would seem to be ridiculously simple to fix, especially for the team-import function, I hope someone takes care of it in a patch.... |
