I was wondering when playing defense and the number 3 option,

Pitch to contact - likely a runner on first and you want the batter to make contact, ideally into a DP. The batter is usually a ground ball type hitter so your chances of inducing the DP are greater.

It also avoids deep pitch counts, helping your pitcher stay in the game longer.

But don't always go as wanted. I've had some of the longest Homeruns hit off that Pitch To Contact option. LOL. I'll use it when in desperation.

I am hesitant to try that option. IRL the Twins used a “pitch to contact” philosophy for a few years and usually lost around 95 games per season.
