New Installation D Drive
I am currently downloading the setup.exe file and have a question.
I have a small C Drive but a large D drive. Is there an option, during installation, to put the entire game and associated data on the D drive? Any tips? Thank you Update - I did not realize there was an option for a user-defined setup location. Question answered. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by SouthwestDude; 01-19-2018 at 01:32 AM. |

just in case you have an ssd/hdd combo (small/big):
you may want to install teh program on the SSD, then use expert settings to change "data" directory. program of about ~1.25GB on SSD, then all other stuff like saved games and default data files all stored in 2nd location. little trick (optional): The data directory gets installed on first run of the game -- you'll say a messages at top of window as to what it is doing. To avoid this initial data directory installation with application, you must change the custom_folders.ini file for the correct data path (larger HDD folder) before you start the game for the first time after installation... just hold off on clicking okay/finish at en dof installation... go edit file, save, then click ok to load ootp for first time. apppath= datapath= ... somethign to that extent in that file... leave AppPath allone. change data path to your 2nd location of choice. not optional: even if the above seems difficult, you can fix this after installation too. once you change the location in game through settings (or the ini file), restart OotP and all data will be installed to new location. then, you can go delete all the directories in initial data directory except "Skins" & "Fonts" folders. those stay and the rest is a duplicate and safe to delete. no worries on this initial data folder... it's all backed up in the RAR archives. if you thin you screw somethign up, you go into the main app settings and click "re-install" data directory and all is back to default. the App will load faster on the SSD and 1.25GB can't grow if you put data directory elsewhere. i keep my leagues on a HDD. it saves a ton on read/write operation wear and tear on an ssd... seems to be a ton of lil 1kb/s-Xkb/s writes constantly. that's somethign i hope they chnage (can see this in perfmon.exe - constantly queuing crap for hdd instead of larger 'writes' that save on wear and tear.) further evidence is the mass amount of defragmentation in the files. this isn't req'd for data integrity, no idea why it works this way (sorry off on tangent).
