Does This Guy Deserve the Series MVP Award?
I'm trying to wrap my head around OOTP18 awarding RP Ch'ang-chieh LI (the stopper) the MVP Award for this particular playoff series. Does it seem reasonable that for all of 3.1 IP, he gets the nod over, say a Ron Gavin or a Brandon Robinson? I'm just wondering if I'm missing something. I'm curious what others may think.

I think he does by omission. No one else really deserved it. Seems fair to me.

Nobody else really stands out. For me it would depend on what situations he pitched in. If he came in a jam in a close game and got out of it every time then yeah he probably saved the series for you and deserves it. If his time was in mop up duty that is a completely different story.

I would agree with the others in this thread and say that nobody else really deserved it either. Sure, Gavin and Robinson hit over .300, but neither of them lit the world on fire either, and OOTP loves a lot of wins for a pitcher. He also didn't give up any runs, albeit in only 3 innings.

That's the problem with baseball - too many numbers/ways to evaluate a player/situation. (don't get me wrong, it's a fun problem to have
)However when trying to determine who deserves the MVP, you need a whole lot more that 3 or 4 of those numbers (which is all we see here) to properly evaluate. You also need to be able to put those numbers into perspective. It would be nice to know the whole picture about the stats and the "Series" itself. |

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I agree, a little more of the picture would help. So here are a few screen shots of the game logs where Li was on the mound.
His 1st appearance was in Game 2, where he entered in the top of the 9th with one out. His team won in the bottom half and he picked up the win: ![]() His 2nd appearance was in Game 3. He entered in the bottom of the 9th with one out and a runner on 1B: ![]() His final appearance was in Game 5. He pitched two full innings (10th & 11th), picking up his 2nd win: ![]()

Joy-Shan Liu seemed like an obvious choice to me...15 IP and a 2.40 ERA are both very legit in a 5-game series. Basically, he got a W and set his team up to win a second time even though he himself didn't get the credit.
