Rehab assignments

If you guys have a player go down for an extended period of time, do you send him down for a "rehab assignment"? Is that strategy built into the game that a player coming off an extended injury would be rusty?

I do that usually only for pitchers and only when I'm in a tight playoff race where i can't afford a rusty pitcher to give up runs while he rehabs. If I'm way ahead in standings I don't bother.

Yes, rustiness after injuries is definitely built into the game as well as an enhanced re-injury chance (I'm less sure of this) if not spending some time on a rehab assignment.

I'm not even sure, how do I send a pitcher on a rehab assignment?

Once they are healthy and eligible to return, right click on the player and there should be a "send to rehab" option. Bats can stay 20 days in any level of the minors, pitchers for 30.

I do this for any injury > 1 month. But I find if you don't do this, the player struggles upon return.

Hilariously though I sent a RP down after a 6 week injury to rehab, he then got a 3 week D2D and 6 week "OUT" injury.

I usually dont ever keep them down for the entire time of their rehab assignment, for a starter I like to see at least 2 starts and for hitters I just wanna see about a week of games. only if it's a big injury, such as a year long injury, would I keep a guy there for the entire time of the rehab assignment

If it's a long injury I always send to rehab. If it's a quick stint on the 10 Day and the need the player back in the lineup bad I skip it. I want pitchers to pitch in at least three games in rehab, and I want batters to get at least a dozen at bats. However, with some players I park them in rehab for as long as I can if they were borderline on the roster in the first place and I'm not sure if I want to send down the guy I called up to replace them.

How about the teams controlled by AI? In OOTP17 I noticed quite a few rehab assignments after being on the DL, but I don't think I've seen any in OOTP18. Has that feature disappeared in this version or am I not observant enough?

My rule of thumb is I only send guys down if they've been injured more than a month. For hitters I like to think one start of rehab is the same as a week injured - 4 weeks gets the guy 4 games of rehab. Pitchers.. usually I bring him up after a few starts.. but it depends on his numbers down on the farm (bb vs Ks only).

Yes. it's generally valuable to send them down. And note this year, if you have a max roster size in AAA, rehab assignments do NOT take a roster spot.

Must be a OOTP18 bug, I am also NOT seeing the AI using that feature.
