Why does my knuckleballer always throw fastballs
I've noticed this the past few starts with a knuckleballer in my rotation...
He was pitching a gem into the 8th when he started giving up hits and i noticed every pitch was a fastball, figuring it was fatigue i got the bullpen ready and wrote it off as such. Next start no issues or fastballs thrown.....now in his 3rd start, 21 pitches into the game and in the second inning all he is throwing are 81-85 mph fastballs that are getting crushed. "Fastball" is not even in his list of pitches he throws....and on normal starts he is knuckleball heavy with a curve and changeup. da f...? is this a new "realism" to the injury part of the game, where i need to recognize when a pitcher is not right? or is this a straight bug? its curious that its inconsistent when this fastball spree shows up. note: mound visits claim he is completely fine. |

When your knuckleball doesn't "Knuckle" It looks like a Fastball, only slower...and yes, those pitches get pounded

Not at 81mph, however. A good knuckleball is like 55mph. I remember Charlie Hough used to throw an 80-ish fastball that he would use almost like a change of pace off his knuckler, but faster instead of slower.

i don't think ootp confuses pitches when thrown poorly. -- or however that affect is modeled in the game
in general, how many pitches of each thrown is based somewhat on the ratio of the individual ratings of each. 80 / 60 and hte 80 is thrown more... 80/80 ? if like real life and one is a fastball, you might guess it's thrown more even if even with another pithc, but maybe not... i've never looked into it, but how well a pitch is rated does affect frequency of use.
