What would you do?
I've gotten myself into quite the interesting dilemma. It is the off season and I'm trying to improve my team. I have 5 outfielders who are all out of options and have a combined WAR of 2.2 for the previous season. I'd like to upgrade one of my outfield positions but I'm not sure what to do with the 5 guys out of options. None are terrible. None are great. When I shop them around I don't get much in the way of offers. I could release one or two, or DFA them. Anyone have any suggestions?

I would just hang on to them until cut-down day and then DFA them. You could DFA them earlier if you need the roster spot, but otherwise there is really no reason to release them.

Upgrade through free agency and DFA the two least valuable guys at the end of Spring Training. It's not a big deal if they are claimed, best case scenario is you can send them to AAA if they clear waivers.

well, you need at least 4 OF on your team, eh? depends on what you have, too...
how many leadoff type hitters do you have? high obp but low slugging? a backup is always nice to stash at bottom of lineup. can't be on bench, unless the 'starting' leadoff guy is the same position. of the 5OF... which have power? can you eliminate 1? deduce/guesstimate BABIP rating from power and avoid k's that is shown. cut the guy furthest below 1/2 scale. if not, which has incredibly low avoid k's and an only middling contact rating? if one is weak see if oyu can dfa... depth is a good thing. if they want too much money for an extension offer before FA starts... wait for free agency if they are a dime a dozen... you may end up getting them cheaper as FA if you wait a week or 2 (or a month or 2 etc)... this way has more risk, of course.. and not worth it if you have tons of budget space to be splitting hairs like that over tiny contracts. if oyu don't have ratings on, do you stats "thing" and it should be the same answers with a bit more fog of war. same exact logic and reasoning. way easier for batters in ootp. avoid k's, babip are easily discerned from their stats and a bit of understanding of your league's baseline (not for that year but what they amount to in perpetuity) Last edited by NoOne; 08-14-2017 at 10:28 AM. 5 OF have a combined WAR of 2.2? They're barely averaging half a win. If you can get anything for them, great. If not, they're not a loss if you need to DFA them. You want to get a minimum of 10 WAR from 4 OF. And I feel like that's low, if anything.

Yes, I realize I have a problem. The goal of 10 WAR from my outfield is a good goal to shoot for. Thanks!
