OOTP 18: Mariners Dynasty
This is my first dynasty ever, so well here goes! Most of my inspiration for the format of this series goes to Griever20 and his Brewers dynasty. I will be doing this dynasty on OOTP 18, in Challenge Mode. I will not touch any settings inside the game. I had multiple reasons to choose the Mariners. First and foremost, they haven't made the playoffs since 2001 and have never in their franchise history even [I]been[I] to the World Series. Second, they have a couple top prospects, but not a lot of depth in their farm, and with an aging roster and core, they could be in a bad spot in a couple of years. I hope you enjoy!

April 2017: Current Roster
Starters:
Name Age 2016 Stats James Paxton(L) 28 6-7, 121 IP, 3.79 ERA,1.31 WHIP, 3.7 WAR, 8.7 K/9 Felix Hernandez(R) 30 11-8, 153 IP, 3.82 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 1.0 WAR,7.2 K/9 Hisashi Iwakuma(R)35 16-12,199 IP, 4.12 ERA,1.33 WHIP, 2.2 WAR,6.6 K/9 Dillon Overton(L) 25 1-3, 24 IP, 11.47 ERA, 2.26 WHIP, -1.0 WAR, 6.3 K/9 (With Oakland) Yovani Gallardo(R) 31 6-8,118 IP, 5.42 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 0.4 WAR, 6.5 K/9 (With Baltimore) The front end of the rotation is looking solid with Paxton, King Felix, and Iwakuma. The back end.......er not so much. If we're in the race by the trade deadline, a trade for a No.4-5 starter could easily happen. Relievers: Name Age 2016 Stats Dan Altavilla(R) 24 0-0,12 IP, 0.71 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 0.4 WAR, 7.3 K/9 Nick Hagadone(L) 31 0-1, 27.1 IP, 4.28 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 0.1 WAR, 9.2 K/9 (2015 Stats) Mark Lowe(R) 33 1-3, 49.1 IP, 7.11 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, -0.7 WAR, 8.9 K/9 (With Detroit) Marc Rzepczynski(L) 31 0-0, 11.2 IP, 1.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 0.2 WAR, 6.9 K/9 (With Washington) Evan Scribner(R) 31 0-0, 14.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP, 0.5 WAR, 9.6 K/9 Nick Vincent(R) 30 4-4 3 SV, 60.1 IP, 3.73 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 0.3 WAR, 9.7 K/9 Edwin Diaz(R) 23 0-4 18 SV, 51.2 IP, 2.79 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 1.6 WAR, 15.3 K/9 The bullpen has all the pieces to be solid yet unspectacular, except for Edwin Diaz. That kid has something special, and soon you could see him winning reliever of the year. Catcher: Name Age 2016 Stats Mike Zunino(R) 26 55 G, 2.07 BA, 12 HR, 31 RBI, .318 OBP, .787 OPS, 0.8 WAR, 0 SB Carlos Ruiz(R) 38 48 G, .261 BA, 3 HR, 12 RBI, .368 OBP, .719 OPS, 0.8 WAR, 3 SB (With PHI) Zunino should hopefully have a bounce back year and Ruiz doesn't put up big numbers, but he's a solid veteran backup. Infield Name Age 2016 Stats Danny Valencia(R) 32 130 G, .287 BA, 17 HR, 51 RBI, .346 OBP, .792 OPS, 2.5 WAR, 1 SB (With Oakland) Dan Vogelbach(L) 24 8 G, 0.83 BA, 0 HR, 0 RBI, .154 OBP, .237 OPS, -0.2 WAR, 0 SB Robinson Cano(L) 34 161 G, .298 BA, 39 HR, 103 RBI, .350 OBP, .882 OPS, 5.1 WAR, 0 SB Kyle Seager(L) 29 158 G, .278 BA, 30 HR, 99 RBI, .359 OBP, .859 OPS, 4.4 WAR, 3 SB Taylor Motter(R) 27 70 G, .204 BA,7 HR, 23 RBI, .272 OBP, .627 OPS,-0.1 WAR, 9 SB Jean Segura(R) 27 153 G, .319 BA, 20 HR, 64 RBI, .368 OBP, .867 OPS, 5.6 WAR, 33 SB (With ARI) The offseason addition of Segura gives us a potential All Star at every infield position except for first, but Vogelbach is young and has some potential. Outfield Name Age 2016 Stats Mitch Haniger 26 34 G, .227 BA, 5 HR, 17 RBI, .309 OBP, .713 OPS, 0.2 WAR, 0 SB (with ARI) Guillermo Heredia 26 45 G, .250 BA, 1 HR, 12 RBI, .349 OBP, .664 OPS, 0.2 WAR, 1 SB Jarrod Dyson 32 107 G, .278 BA, 1 HR, 25 RBI, .340 OBP, .728 OPS, 1.1 WAR, 30 SB (With KC) Leonys Martin 29 143 G, .247 BA, 15 HR, 47 RBI, .306 OBP, .684 OPS, 1.0 WAR, 24 SB Nelson Cruz 36 155 G, .287 BA, 43 HR, 105 RBI, .360 OBP, .915 OPS, 4.5 WAR, 2 SB This outfield is looking great with possibly a Heredia, Haniger platoon in left and a Dyson, Martin platoon in center, but I don't know what Servais will do as he thinks playing the defensively limited Cruz in right is the plan. Talking about Cruz, at 36 he is STILL a beast. Top 3 Questions and Concerns going into the Season: 1. Can Mike Zunino bounce back from a horrific 2016 to become our starting catcher? 2. Can the starting rotation perform well enough for us to break our playoff drought? 3. Can the unproven platoon of Heredia and Haniger perform? |
