Post Possible financial system suggestion

I don't know how hard this would be to code, but I was thinking about adding a variable into the "era" properties in the league setup screen that would change the financial system based on a percentage for each era or year. I.E, players in 1910 make a max of $75,000 a year, but ticket prices are about $1.

I don't know how hard this would be to code, but I love the historical aspect of this game, so adding it would be great. Thanks for all the hard work Markus

There's a couple of this who've brought this up before. Crossing fingers.

Just out of curiosity...

Why do people care so much about era-adjusted finances? I mean, it's all relative. Can't you just "pretend" to knock a couple of zeroes off the end of the salaries?

I'm not blasting anyone (particularly because I don't play with financials on), I'm just wondering if I'm missing something or if people just want to see lower salary figures for older seasons.

It all has to do with perception and getting into the 'feel' of it.... Who wants to see Ty Cobb demanding millions on the free agent market, not that there was free agency back then but hey we can't separate financials from free agency YET.

I guess I can see the thinking.

Personally, I think there are bigger issues than this. I'd like to see:
A. Tweaked player fatigue. While this was a MUCH needed feature, it still isn't quite right. OOTP4 fatigue does a good job at the upper end (600+ PA) but there are still too many guys with 500 to 600 PA.
B. I'm still irked by the fact that offseason trading doesn't run with the financials off. Seems like an easy fix to me.

You're in the minority in not using financials. It's the one big thing that makes the game more challenging. I do just pretend now, but I still would of loved having my league I started in 1910 to be more accurate financially throughout its history. No it's not a gamebreaker, but if you offer era play and financials, it would be nice to have the 2 go hand in hand.

I wouldn't cheapen your ideas of what needs to be done by suggesting I don't see them as that important and much less so than what I think needs done. Perhaps you may adopt that philosophy also?

Being a statistician, depending on the availability of data a financial system based on either the inflation rate in general or the inflation rate of player salaries would not be that difficult to model. It could be as simple as using the average or more sophisticated using the distribution of salaries. In either case, given that there is already a financial structure based on ability in place, this should not be a real challenge to program. Heck, for a free OOTP5 I'd even volunteer to do the statistical work.

Actually not playing with financials on can be extremely challenging... it will take you awhile to build a decent team out of a loser, especially if you don't attempt to rip off the CPU with lopsided trades..

I played many of my OOTP3 seasons like this
