Shopping players
I have a few veteran players that I want to shop for prospects in an effort to rebuild. Whenever I shop these players the only offers I am seeing are one for one for a current major league player who is a little older than I would like. Is there a way to get offers for prospects?

Edit: Make a shortlist of who you want and try direct trading for them.

I am trying to trade Craig Kimbrel (8 mil) and Kyle Seager (about 14 mil?) Speaking of Kimbrel, I signed him as a free agent and made sure not to promise him the role as a closer since I have Edwin Diaz so why is Kimbrel angry that he isn't the closer? If he wanted to be a closer wouldn't that be a factor in him signing as a free agent?

I think the offers you get when you do the "shop player" function are limited to players on the 40-man roster, so you don't necessarily see prospects there. You have to manually go through and try to work out deals for true prospects.

it's a matter of how other teams value those players... too much to ask to hash it out here. plus, even on normal the ai, on average, wants slightly more than fair compensation, imo. so, you get a bit less offered than what you are giving.
this is great for gauging interest.. you don't have to stop at that list... find whcih team(S) are offering a bit more than the rest... then go look through their minors/mlb teams and see if there's something worth prying at. it may not end up a 1:1 trade. RP, old, interchangeable... these things have no value in trades... (very very rarely RP... probably a handful can have value in your league, but only to teams that need bullpen help, desperately) RP will typically reduce interest ina trade... honeslty! make a package with an average rp or an average prospect rp, then remove them from that package and compare the feedback syntax of the AI GM... he'll be moreintersted in many situations when you remove the RP ![]() and, yeah.. i can't recall ever being offered a MiL player on that list with zero mlb time. |

I agree with NoOne on this one.
The shop players function is a good indicator of a players value compared to others on your team. Plus you can see which teams are offering more for your particular player and work on a trade with them for some of their prospects since they most likely have a need for your player. I was able to trade JD Martinez at the trade deadline for Ian Happ, Koda Glover, & another prospect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The other thing to remember is they are only offering 1 player, sometimes you can easily add on more prospects from them to the deal they offered

I use it a lot & have had a few decent offers, a couple I accepted, all good answers here.
it's best used as a starting point & work from there.

Me too as long as you don't expect to fleece the AI. Another way to use shop player is to shortlist players you feel aren't worth your offer then trade normally through the "make this work" feature. I've made some good acquisitions including swapped prospects from this strategy.

One last thing to keep in mind... shopping a player will make them unhappy/mad at you, sooner or later depending on their personality and current situation.
Not that we care much as GMs, right?

Is that true? I didn't realize the player was "aware" they were being shopped around.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

after 3-4x they're unhappy or angry IIRC.

Awesome guys. Thank you so much for the feedback. Ill let you know who I end up getting for Kimbrel / Seager and who knows maybe I fully tear this thing down.

There is also a screen where you can tell the AI exactly what you are looking for. You can set a certain position, a certain age, a particular rating, or whatever. You can even tell it that you want a player rated "3 Stars (or however many stars) or more." Just go to the "MLB Transactions" page, then click on "Player Trade," then "Team Needs." You can "add" your team needs on that screen.
I have set the "Age" to between 19-22, and selected the position I am looking for, and about 50% of the time, the AI will actually find a suitor to trade with. However, if you want 2-3 prospects for your veteran, you will need to go to that team and do the negotiation bit that others have said. Once or twice, I have found a couple sleepers that I have dumped salary for who went to the minors for a couple years and developed very nicely. |
