same 1-2-3 in both NL MVP & Cy Young
In my historical league, both the 1963 N.L. Cy Young and MVP winners & runners-up were the same:
1. Sandy Koufax - 24-4, 2.11, 281 K's in 268 innings (11.3 WAR - 1st) 2. Don Drysdale - 19-6, 1.27(!), 246 K's in 276 innings (10.2 WAR - 2nd) 3. Bob Bruce - 24-10, 1.96, 211 K's in 280 innings (8.9 WAR - 5th) I found that interesting... Willie Mays probably had the best case among hitters - .340 (led league), 25 HR, 94 RBI, 32 2B, 85 runs, league-leading 9.7 WAR. There was also: Billy Williams - .288, 23, 95, with league-leading 46 2B's & 16 3B's, 97 runs, 6.6 WAR (3rd) Frank Howard - .262, league-high 42 HR & 113 RBI, 89 runs, 5.1 WAR (12th) Eddie Mathews finished 2nd in WAR (7.9) but his #'s didn't pop out to me as being worthy of MVP discussion: .267/31/86, 83 runs. I've no clue if OOTP factors in how the player's team fared, but FWIW, LA (Koufax, Drysdale, Howard) won the WS, Houston (Bruce) finished 5th in the NL, the Giants (Mays) finished 6th, Braves (Matthews) 4th, and the Cubs (Williams) 9th. (Note: I include WAR because it might mean something to others. I know what it stands for but I don't care for it...) |
