So, there's a new football game on the market
I am quite hyped about the new football manager that OOTPD is developing, but since I don't really have time to follow it - will it include a historical system like OOTP? It would be cool to see Eisenhower as a young lad in his Army-Navy game from the 1920s.

No, not yet. They're currently working on just getting the current rules correct. Plus, I don't think we have enough box scores to form ratings for the 1920s, do we?

That's a pity, I hope that they will at least make it till the 1950s.

But I'm skeptical that this can be done accurately, because how on earth would you rate some guy's offensive line play from the 1920s? It's hard enough to do that now. In the pre-computer game era, Avalon Hill had a board game called Statis Pro Football that had a card set for the 1957 season, and it was fun. I currently play a American football game called Second and Ten developed by Richard Hanna. (roogames.com - click link to secondandten.com)
Richard Is a Brit. He is to football what Markus Heinsohn is to baseball. The game includes all pro teams from 1932 to 2016 (NFL, AFL, USFL, AAFC, WFL, NFL Europe and XFL). Also includes over 6,500 college teams. For historical replays this game is great you can set up tournaments (World Cup format 8, 16 or 32 teams also one and done for up to 128 teams) and of course you can replay historical pro seasons and create your own NFL history - there is an encyclopedia function built in to the game. For fictional leagues this game is not good at all. You can create players and teams but it is a lot of work and not worth it. There is no fictional player generator like OOTP. And there is no management built into the game other than calling plays on offense or defense. I really like this game as much as OOTP. Check out the website. If you are a football fan you will enjoy it. Last edited by Shackdaddy; 05-16-2017 at 08:19 PM. Reason: Added more detail. |

Gunny check out secondandten.com. The game costs $49.99. The price includes everything I mentioned. If you want additional college seasons after 2011 they cost $10 each.
Here's how I play the game. Pro- I am playing a NFL historical replay beginning in 1960 (the 1st year of the AFL). I am currently in 1992. I find that the game is fairly close to real life but I don't want to repeat history exactly. It is more fun to me that way. I can only think of one or two seasons when the Super Bowl winner matched real life. But I like that it makes it fun for me. I don't coach any of the teams I just let the computer play the results out. Which is also the way I play OOTP. When you simulate games you have the option of how much you want to simulate. For instance, because I play every game in the season, I fast simulate up to the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter. And then I simulate each play for the rest of the game and overtime. The weirdest statistical happening was in 1984 when Dan Marino threw 79 touchdown passes. That was the dolphins perfect season as opposed to 1972 in real life. Of course you have the option of taking over any team and acting as head coach and calling plays offense or defense or both. It's up to you. But I like to play the commissioner . I like the ultimate power. College – there are over 6500 teams and I've taken on the major undertaking of determining the all-time best team via a series of tournaments NCAA basketball style. The winners of all the tournaments will play a grand final tournament to determine the best team. Each tournament has at least 64 and no more than 128 teams, so with the one in done format a team has to play six or seven rounds to be a tournament champion. I Play out each tournament game like the pro with one difference. I fast simulate to the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter and if one team is leading by more than 20 points, I will fast simulate the rest of the game. If a team is leading by less than 20 points I will simulate each play of the last eight minutes and overtime just like I do in the pros. I do that because of the number of teams and time involved. Right now I am playing a tournament involving all 123 teams from the 1970 and 1971 season that are in the game. I am too lazy to seed the teams, so I let the computer do it randomly. Once in a great while you will get a match up like the 1970 Alabama team playing the 1971 Alabama team. I am OK with that. It would take way too much time to avoid something like that. So that's the way I play the game. I don't do this, but you have the flexibility to set up your own seasons matching up pro teams from different seasons. For example you could have a league that includes the 1972 Miami dolphins and the 1985 Chicago Bears so you could determine the all-time Best pro team that way or you could do a NCAA basketball type tournament and decide the all-time best pro team. It's up to you. This game is definitely worth the money. |

Too bad it doesn't have a GM mode like what FOF has or OOTP Baseball. If that guy could/would create a way for fictional players and have a GM mode, etc., this 'secondandten' game would be awesome imo. WHY in the heck hasn't anyone made a football game like OOTP has made the baseball game!?!?!?!?!?!?!! ARGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing I forgot to mention. You can edit the players (college or pro) names and statistics, so for example you can make yourself quarterback of your favorite team and lead that team to the promised land. Or you could edit the entire roster stats for the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers who went 0-14 and make them Super Bowl winners.
I made myself quarterback of the 1975 Vikings and led them to a Super Bowl win. It feels good to be a Super Bowl champ even though it's not real. Last edited by Shackdaddy; 05-16-2017 at 02:17 PM. Reason: Spelling error. |

I remember playing the demo a few years ago.
Refresh me on fictional teams. What's the most teams you can have in a season? |

Orioles1966, in a fictional league you can have as many as 20 teams in 16 conferences so that would be a total of 320 teams. There is a limit of up to 4 divisions in each conference.
Hope that helps. By the way for those of you who have version 9 of this game, upgrade to version 10. It is worth it. |

Can you add fictional teams to the NFL ,CFL,USFL or WFL or are these leagues formatted and can't change the set-up? Can you merge two leagues together or are the leagues separate? Can the leagues run side-by-side playing games on the same day? |

Orioles1966 to answer your questions:
You can take an existing season, import the teams into a new league and then add fictional teams. Or you could import teams from different leagues and seasons into a league The existing leagues are separate and cannot be combined. That was a minor bummer for me in my historical replay in that from 1966 to 1969 the AFL and NFL were separate leagues and I had to create and play Super Bowls 1 - 4 as exhibition games. When I updated my encyclopedia for those seasons these games could be imported into the encyclopedia but did not show up in league history properly as playoff games. I have not played leagues other than AFL or NFL so I don't know if other pro leagues can be imported into the encyclopedia. I am 99% sure that fictional pro leagues cannot be imported. And there is no encyclopedia function for college. The pro and college are separate modules within the game. You cannot even set up an exhibition game between a undefeated college team and an winless pro team just to see what happens. When you say side by side if you mean on your computer screen at the same time, the answer would be no. In addition unlike OOTP each regular season of a league is a separate file. There no offseason to blend the seasons. When you finish the regular season league schedule you will see a tab to create playoff. By default it will be the playoff structure for that league and season. However you can add or subtract wild card teams. Also you have the option of editing the playoff bracket once the playoff is created. The playoffs are a separate season file that will be imported with the regular season when you update the encyclopedia. In the encyclopedia there are separate tabs for regular season and playoffs. Editorial comment: historical playoff stat reporting in Second and Ten is way better than OOTP. I hope I answered your questions. Plus I gave you a lot of other info as well.
