Historical Replay - real-life news items
This game is already incredibly immersive but I wondered whether that impression could be further enhanced by including occasional real-life news stories at the appropriate time in a historical replay. So I'm thinking no more than perhaps a couple per year at most and they would relate only to the really big news stories of the day - so things like the moon landings, JFK assassination, that kind of thing. It might just give a flavour of the times outside of the baseball sphere.

I like the idea, and I think I've brought this up in the past. It's actually possible to include these kinds of stories now, but I wonder if players would become annoyed with seeing non-baseball-related stories cropping up when they already have to sort through a bunch of news items

Random debut real-life news items? j/k
![]() Maybe - to address both the OP and the concern that Joe expresses - real-life news items could be briefly related to baseball stories. For example: On a day that Neil Armstrong made history by setting foot on the moon, Carl Yastrzemski blasted two moon shots of his own, leading the Red Sox to a 7-5 victory over..." Stories like this could add to immersion in a whimsical way but not be too intrusive... Of course I think it would be easier to add the positive or neutral stories, as opposed to the major downers such as JFK getting killed, war breaking out, etc... Those might be more of a challenge to weave into baseball stories. Those couldn't be done whimsically. Last edited by thehef; 05-07-2017 at 04:53 PM. Reason: clarity |
