Pitcher throwing ball to other players than batter

I've noticed something wrong in my game - sometimes the pitcher throws the ball to someone else than the batter - like to my player who stands next to a base, causing him to jump back to it. Is that allowed in baseball?

Yes, that's a common play in baseball. The pitcher will often do that in order to try to keep the runner from stealing bases.

Yes, it's a very common play called a "pickoff throw". Actually, one of the more boring plays in baseball, but it's a necessary part of defensive strategy to keep the runners "honest".

I don't find it too boring if it only happens every so often, but those teams that think they need to try to pick runners off 15-20 times a game, and 3-4 times in a row to the same base, same runner, now that's boring.

I certainly have to say this.

In principle the pitcher is actually throwing to the catcher.

There's nothing quite like watching Clay Buchholz throw 7 straight pickoff attempts on a runner standing 3 feet off first base...
