How to Create Online Historical League

I have never been in an online league on OOTP but it is something that interests me. I have tried to create one for a buddy and I but was thrown off by the FTP site and what not. Has that process been made any easier? We come from Madden where you just pick a league name and some basic rules and the game/servers do the rest.

Also, is a historical league possible? Are there any running on here? We are big fans of the 80's and may be interested in joining a current league if running our own is too problematic.

There are many online historical leagues. Many post on this site looking for new GMs. It's a great way to play as trading with real people is way more interesting than dealing with AI.

I'm currently in two leagues playing in the early 70s

Yeah I've searching through them trying to find something. Its hard because a lot of them just have their league name so finding a historical takes some time lol.

Anyone have an advice on setting this up? I see you can do a historical. I've read the manual. It seems overwhelming. Is it easier than I'm thinking?
