Anyway to play the Spring Training of that first year?

I'd love to get a feel for the team before opening day.... I know this has been hammered before but is it doable from any setting?

You can do it if you create the league using the advanced mode (not the wizard). Set your spring training to be something other than 5 weeks (default) and it will start the season one or two days before spring training. I am not sure if this will work with the current MLB setup (never tried it) but it will work with any historical or fictional league.

Is there a reason a new game starts in late March, and not at Opening Day like the past? Not that it matters but was just wondering

the first year of any ootp is the actual MLB schedule... they often have games pre-dating others by multiple days or even a week+, if it's in another country.

your schedul may start later, but check to see if any games are being played... "regular season" league event obviously must have occured, too. so, if that hasn't happened, ignore me.

i like some lead-in time, regardless. it gives a bit of time to make a move or two with the roster.

i use 5 weeks, and i'm pretty sure it scheduled spring training in a custom game??? i haven't even simmed 1 days yet, so that's not a solid memory i must admit. i did use a template from '17, though. (made during game creation, not afteward, so that the game would create the players acording to '18's new whatever)

Oh yeah I forgot I had the Japanese League and the Indie leagues in my save, that's probably why

I created a fictional league with real MLB structure and no inaugural draft.

I am currently in Spring Training. I did use the Advanced settings after doing as much as I could with the wizard but before actually creating the league.

Hope this helps
